Glamour Shots

Today was the the big day for the photo shoot for a local area magazine. #0777 and I are just one of several cars and owners to be included in the article. Before letting the car down from the jacks I made sure the steering box was reconnected to the frame and then the box itself properly lubed. The grease fitting was still painted over so it’s hard telling when the last time it was ever done. I then reinstalled the spare tire and license plates, painting some of the attaching hardware along the way. Afterwards I pushed #0777 out of the garage and began washing it until my friend Mr. Bean showed up to help reinstall the bonnet. You would have thought M.G. Would have welded the retaining nuts for the bonnet hood strip supports in place. What a bugger to get a finger in and properly align them with the the holes from three other pieces. (Note to self - Reinstall spare wheel AFTER you wash and wax the car.) It was then time for a cuppa. After tea I set to work cleaning and detailing as much of the car as I had time for before the photographer showed up. It was yet another 5-hour day working on the car, which has become de rigueur of late. That is about to change as I head back to work on Friday after a fortnight on holiday (vacation). 

Getting into a deep cleaning of the car really revealed a lot of the imperfections I had not noticed in my seven months of ownership. The paint, being 30 years old, is far from perfect, but still pretty presentable. One of the things I did discover is the portion of the cowl covered by the rubber window strip. I don’t think that has been attended to in ages. It was really disgusting; however, it cleaned up nicely. Still much to do in the cosmetic department, but that will have to wait until after I get the mechanicals sorted. Oh, and a couple of others things I discovered, which I may or may not have mentioned, were the brackets for the clutch return spring and carburetor (carburettors) were missing and said springs were attached to the frame and frankly someplace I cant even remember now. New brackets and springs on order. 
I still have to order the parts for the cooling system and I think I’ll replace the water pump in the process as well. Other inconvenient and time consuming life issues to deal with tomorrow, but I’m hoping I can at least get #0777 back up on jacks and maybe get a start at removing the radiator in preparation for the cooling system redo.

BTW, if anybody in the U.K. has any history on EWD 36 while it was in England during the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and possibly the 70’s & 80’s, I would be most appreciative to know. All I know is that it was originally registered in Warwickshire in 1946 and it was black. Supposedly it was restored somewhere in England it the 1980’s, but I have no proof of that being the case.

DRAINED

I've been a bit negligent in posting lately, mostly because I've been tied up on other projects. Be assured though, that Johnny is doing well, except for a minor battery drain issue we traced to the refurbished Becker radio. The radio was sent back to Becker (unfortunately out of warranty) for refurbishment yet again and should be here early this week. I'm still in search of a pristine dash to replace the slightly cracked one; however, it's not a priority. Sometimes I consider the cracks "patina," and other times they just annoy the hell out of me.
